Theres this weird elitism that has developed in the SC2 community that custom mods are for noobs and it seems to me alot of people actually take pride in knowing nothing about the Arcade and are just in it for the ladder game, which imo, is fucking stupid. If anything, the Starcraft 2 community has nobody to blame but themselves that they dont know about more of these amazing mods. And the Arcade is a great system for that. But beeing able to play your own mods on a reliable basis. And that should be the main reason of making a mod - making something that YOU yourself want to play. In any case, speaking as someone who makes high-end, but very niche maps, the Arcade always allows you to get players for your mod whenever you want to play it. And it WILL get a community going if you support your game properlly and it has alot of replay potential. The Arcade then offers a great system for your mod to played and experienced in. The truth is, everytime a large SC2 mod is released the internet is all over it and it gets alot of attention. Dunno about Warcraft: Alliance and Horde. Starbow has small tournaments and a steady community.
